Night At The Shop: Trip Night on Feb 5th

11_TRIP-NIGHT-at-the-shopJoin us on February 5th, 6-9pm for our 2nd annual “Trip Night” – an evening of fun, food, and lots of talk about dive trips!  Part of our “Night At The Shop” series of events, Trip Night is a diver favorite.  Who doesn’t love to talk about dive travel?

It’s free to attend, and we’ll provide snacks and drinks for this relaxed, informal gathering at the dive shop.  We’ll even be hosting a special guest – Steve Miller – who will be talking to us about the famous Wakatobi dive resort.  Pimmy Bruckner will be leading a trip to Wakatobi in 2017, so come and hear about this awesome location!

The Central Coast Instructors who are leading group trips in 2015 and 2o16 will also be available to talk about the various locations we’ll be diving, so you can find the trip that’s perfect for you!  We have trips for single divers, pairs of dive buddies, divers who have a non-diving companion, even snorkelers!

Don’t miss this fun event.  Please call the shop at (859) 426-0020 to RSVP so we can make sure we’ll have enough food and drinks!

See you on February 5th at 6pm!

DAN Introduces New Travel Insurance Plans

August 25, 2014

Available through Central Coast Dive Center: NEW Divers Alert Network Trip  and Annual Plans Give Divers and Travelers the Opportunity to Travel Smarter

As a long-term DAN industry partner, and in an effort to encourage safe diving around the world, Central Coast recommends DAN trip insurance and DAN dive accident insurance to all of our divers.  DAN has recently updated their plans: View DAN Press Release from 8/20/2014 or continue reading for the DAN press release about their new offerings!

Divers Alert Network, the leader in dive accident insurance, has introduced two new travel insurance plans to the scuba diving and travel communities. Based on DAN’s 30+ years of emergency travel assistance experience, these plans have been redesigned and offer enhanced levels of coverage to provide protection for unforeseen travel events. The introduction of these plans marks DAN’s return to the travel insurance business after a brief a hiatus stemming from underwriter restructuring.

DAN’s new Trip Insurance provides valuable travel protection for one special trip and features coverages such as Emergency Assistance and Transportation, Medical and Dental, Trip Interruption and Cancellation and protection for baggage and sports equipment. Other plan benefits include concierge services, identity theft resolution services and on-demand medical services. With three plan levels to choose from, travelers will be able to enjoy the trip protection best suited to their budget and coverage needs.

DAN’s new Annual Travel Insurance plan is ideal for individuals who take multiple trips throughout the year. The new Annual Travel Insurance coverage provides protection for every trip taken during the course of a year and includes coverages such as Emergency Assistance and Transportation, Medical and Dental, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Trip Interruption and Cancellation as well as baggage protection with sporting equipment included. The annual plan is available at three levels of coverage.

“These new plans offer a wide range of coverage that can be beneficial to business or leisure travelers,” said Dr. Panchabi Vaithiyanathan, Chief Operating Officer at Divers Alert Network. “DAN’s 30 years of experience in emergency travel assistance has helped to shape the coverage and both of these programs are outstanding. With these plans, people can travel smarter with protection against unforeseen events anywhere around the world,” added Vaithiyanathan.

Both travel insurance plans can be purchased online by members and nonmembers alike at The website’s easy-to-use interface enables travelers to get an instant quote based on their travel parameters. For travelers on the move, the website features a fully responsive design for the ultimate user experience on smart phones and tablets. In addition to the valuable Trip and Annual Insurance plan features, the modern interface and enhanced usability of the web applications further differentiate DAN’s travel insurance products in a competitive marketplace.

July 7, 2014

2014_Quarry_Weekend14This summer was BUSY at Central Coast Dive Center!  We’ve spent most of our summer making visits to the local quarries, certifying divers – and it was a blast!

So far this year, we’ve done organized quarry trips almost every other weekend since May, and we’ll continue at that pace up until the end of October!

2014_Quarry_Weekend_27Remember, ALL divers, ALL levels are invited to join us at any of our regularly scheduled quarry weekends.  We often camp out at the quarry, and there is always an open seat at our campfire.  Come join us!

Here are just a few of the photos we’ve taken this summer…  and CONGRATS to all of our new Central Coast Divers!

Quarries vs. Cozumel – We Love Them Both

May 3, 2014

CozumelDive Season is definitely upon us in the mid-west!  We’re gearing up for Central Coast’s first quarry weekend on May 17th, and can’t wait to get back into the water and blow some bubbles with you!  The viz is usually pretty good early on in the season when the water is a bit on the cold side, so we’re hoping to see some great sights.  Whether it’s the underwater airplane at Gilboa Quarry or the “shipwreck” in the shallows at Natural Springs, we’re ready to go check it out.

Several of our divers are also planning dives in a slightly more tropical location – they’re in the warm tropical waters of Cozumel, Mexico with trip leader Bob West this week.  Cozumel is known for spectacular roller-coaster drift dives through brightly colored coral formations, and it’s a favorite among our staff members.  In fact, it’s such a staff favorite that this year we have TWO trips to Cozumel.  Trip leader Pimmy Bruckner will be heading back to Cozumel in October with a second group of divers, staying at the fabulous Scuba Club Cozumel.

Whether you’re taking in sights of underwater wrecks in our local quarries here in the midwest, or riding a drift in Mexico, it’s definitely time to get back in the water!  We’ll see you down there!

Our First Trip Of The Season – Dry Tortugas!

April 14, 2014

Divers, it’s finally THAT time of year again…  dive season is upon us!

We’re starting the season off with Central Coast’s first trip of the season, to Dry Tortugas, Florida with trip leaders Ken Bales and Katie Stein on the Ultimate Getaway, a 100 vessel with a beautiful covered dive deck.   We’ve extended the trip from the Ultimate Getaway’s usual  into a 5 day trip, to give our group plenty of time to dive and earn new certifications.  We even have a few divers who will be celebrating their 100th dives on the trip!

After Dry Tortugas, Central Coast will be headed to tropical Cozumel, Mexico the following week with trip leader Bob West!

Still looking for a fun summer dive trip this year?  We have a few openings left on our Caymen Brac trip with trip leader Bob Hull in July so call the shop at (859) 426-0020 and reserve your spot before they’re all gone!

Night At The Dive Shop: CAMERAS!

March 14, 2014

We had a great time at our Photo Night yesterday evening!  Thanks to all of the divers who attended and made it a success!  We had a guest speaker from SeaLife Cameras there to tell us all about the latest and greatest in underwater photography equipment, including the new Sea Dragon lighting and camera sets which feature the flex-connect mounting system.  Take a look at the video below to see more.

Peak Performance Buoyancy

Congrats to diver John Hearn, who won the big prize of the evening, a free Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty class!  As any underwater photographer knows, good buoyancy is crucial when it comes to getting the perfect shot underwater.  We hope John gets some good shots for us to share on the website!

Make sure to join our next Night At The Shop event, on Thursday, May 8th when PADI Midwest Regional Manager Gary Joyce will be speaking about continuing education opportunities in diving!  As always, we’ll have food, fun, and lots of dive stories to tell, so don’t miss this fun “Night Out At The Shop” in May!

CCDC Travel Night!

February 6, 2014

CCDC Travel NightThanks to all of the divers who participated in Central Coast Dive Center’s Travel Night on February 6!  The night was a huge success with over 55 divers attending to learn about dive travel and trips with Central Coast.

Central Coast Instructors who are leading trips this year were available to answer questions about upcoming trips and offer advice on dive travel.  We heard a wide variety of conversations with topics ranging from the best way to pack for a live-aboard trip, to descriptions of what a Cozumel drift dive is like!  It was lots of fun, with food, drinks, and lots of laughter and smiles.

The main event of the evening was a presentation from guest speaker Paul, who was in town to tell us all about the dive trip to Australia that Pimmy will be leading in March 2015.  After hearing Paul’s description of the trip and dives in Australia, everyone in the room left dreaming of the Great Barrier Reef.

We finished off the evening with a raffle for $200 off a dive trip, and movie ticket give-aways for a few lucky divers!  A big thanks goes out to Pimmy for organizing the Travel Night, and also to all of the divers who attended the event.

Welcome Back From Key Largo, Divers!

December 4, 2013

SeaLife DC1400

Welcome back from Key Largo, Florida, Central Coast Divers!  We heard you guys had a great weekend of diving in the Keys with Master Instructor Bob Hull on the Sea Dwellers boat!

Congrats also to John and Chris, who earned their Advanced Open Water certifications while in Key Largo.  Way to multi-task, guys!  A vacation and a new certification, all at the same time!

During this action-packed trip, the divers saw the Benwood and Duane wrecks (complete with a massive sea turtle!), and several colorful reefs in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.  Nurse sharks, rays, and fish were plentiful!

Here are some of the fun photos from divers on the trip!
