Continuing Education

Off

Open water weekends have been awesome so far this year, with lots of happy divers earning certifications!.  With the weather warming up, it is also a good time to consider continuing your dive education. The Advanced Open Water course gives you an idea of what specialties you might be interested in doing as a full course. One unique opportunity here at the store is taking the buoyancy specialty along with the Advanced Class.

For an additional $99.00, you get the buoyancy book and extra dives all in one trip to the quarry. The Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty gives you a major edge as a diver. Taking a little extra time to perfect your buoyancy will benefit you in that; you will use less air, have more energy for more dives, and you will protect the environment you’re admiring. PPB makes you an overall more comfortable and confident diver.

The ultimate test of confidences for a diver is the Rescue Course. This class will give you the knowledge and the confidence to handle most emergencies that could occur while diving. Not only are you a more prepared diver, but you are also more self-assured when it comes to your skills and capabilities.

Other specialties that can be accomplished at the store and in the quarry are navigation, drysuit, or Nitrox. Navigation is necessary for any diver that finds that they get slightly turned around when they’re underwater. Navigation will teach you to use a compass effectively, so you know where the boat or the shore is at all times. This is great for any diver who likes to be in complete control of a situation.  Also a great specialty is Drysuit.

If you find that, even when its 90 outside, you’re still cold in the quarry, then Drysuit might be something to look into. Drysuit can be the first step to getting your Master Scuba Diver Certification (Advanced, Rescue, and 5 specialties) if you find that the cold quarries water is not something that you enjoy. The idea of being warm in the quarry gets a lot more people excited about the Rescue Course and other specialties.

Dive Trips Update!

Off

CCDC trips overview_pic1Central Coast Divers have just returned from two amazing trips; Australia with Pimmy, and the Juliet live aboard with Katie and Ken. Both of these trips had an uninvited guest… the bad weather. Although Australia had weather that was slightly more of a hindrance to the trip than what the Juliet suffered, both groups made the best of the situation.

CCDC trips overview_pic2Pimmy with her expert knowledge when it comes to traveling and adapting quickly, found a way to make the once in a life time Australia trip a great experience for everyone, despite the untimely forecast. Some people visited the kangaroos and went to Ayers rock, while others went diving, and rode camels to the night zoo! Even though this trip wasn’t exactly what everyone was expecting, it was still a great success.

CCDC trips overview_pic3The Juliet had some rocky waves towards the end of the trip, but luckily it hardly interfered with the diving. In fact, it was almost better to be underwater than in a sailboat with 5 ft seas sloshing on the deck. We saw lots of incredible things in Bimini; giant sea turtles, beautiful coral, friendly remoras (which everyone really seemed to enjoy) and lots of happy divers. It was another amazing adventure, brought to you by two great trip leaders.

The next trip out of the store is the Little Cayman trip! It looks like a beautiful place, and we’re all excited to hear about it when they return on July 18th!

If you’re interested in traveling with a great group of divers, call Central Coast Diver Center, (859) 426-0020.

SEAL Team – Master Seals!

Off

Congratulations to CCDC’s new Master Seal Team members: Aidan and Evan!

SealTeam1Aidan and Evan had to face many challenges in order to get their Master Seal Team certification. Not only did they have to clean up what looked like a garbage truck spill in the pool for a Project AWARE lesson, they also got to learn about underwater photography and how to identify different animals. The seal team members also had the chance to experience a night dive, using only their flashlights to navigate the dark waters of the pool, never knowing what could pop up!

SealTeam2The creative minds behind the seal team have made so many wonderful opportunities for kids under ten who just can’t wait to start diving. Working with limited space, a seriously fun and educational program has started to take shape here at CCDC.

To show off their new skills, Aidan and Evan will be sharing SCUBA with their friends on March 7th! Keeping these two from getting rusty with their dive skills, there will also be events every so often to get everyone in the pool and play, incorporating things they learned in their Master Seal Team Course.

If you know an 8 or 9 year old who is eager to get in the water and begin their dive adventure, the next seal team class starts on April 5th!  Call (859) 426-0020 to sign up your SEAL!

Available through Central Coast Dive Center: NEW Divers Alert Network Trip  and Annual Plans Give Divers and Travelers the Opportunity to Travel Smarter

As a long-term DAN industry partner, and in an effort to encourage safe diving around the world, Central Coast recommends DAN trip insurance and DAN dive accident insurance to all of our divers.  DAN has recently updated their plans: View DAN Press Release from 8/20/2014 or continue reading for the DAN press release about their new offerings!

Divers Alert Network, the leader in dive accident insurance, has introduced two new travel insurance plans to the scuba diving and travel communities. Based on DAN’s 30+ years of emergency travel assistance experience, these plans have been redesigned and offer enhanced levels of coverage to provide protection for unforeseen travel events. The introduction of these plans marks DAN’s return to the travel insurance business after a brief a hiatus stemming from underwriter restructuring.

DAN’s new Trip Insurance provides valuable travel protection for one special trip and features coverages such as Emergency Assistance and Transportation, Medical and Dental, Trip Interruption and Cancellation and protection for baggage and sports equipment. Other plan benefits include concierge services, identity theft resolution services and on-demand medical services. With three plan levels to choose from, travelers will be able to enjoy the trip protection best suited to their budget and coverage needs.

DAN’s new Annual Travel Insurance plan is ideal for individuals who take multiple trips throughout the year. The new Annual Travel Insurance coverage provides protection for every trip taken during the course of a year and includes coverages such as Emergency Assistance and Transportation, Medical and Dental, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Trip Interruption and Cancellation as well as baggage protection with sporting equipment included. The annual plan is available at three levels of coverage.

“These new plans offer a wide range of coverage that can be beneficial to business or leisure travelers,” said Dr. Panchabi Vaithiyanathan, Chief Operating Officer at Divers Alert Network. “DAN’s 30 years of experience in emergency travel assistance has helped to shape the coverage and both of these programs are outstanding. With these plans, people can travel smarter with protection against unforeseen events anywhere around the world,” added Vaithiyanathan.

Both travel insurance plans can be purchased online by members and nonmembers alike at DAN.org/travel. The website’s easy-to-use interface enables travelers to get an instant quote based on their travel parameters. For travelers on the move, the website features a fully responsive design for the ultimate user experience on smart phones and tablets. In addition to the valuable Trip and Annual Insurance plan features, the modern interface and enhanced usability of the web applications further differentiate DAN’s travel insurance products in a competitive marketplace.
